Mountain View, CA – The internationally known Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI) has selected Service by Medallion to receive its 2020 Safety Award, which honors the most outstanding safety performers from BSCAI’s network of more than 1,000 member companies from across the United States.
BSCAI has been the most respected Business Resource for Contractors™ for more than 50 years. This highly sought-after award is given to the companies with the highest performing safety record which includes putting programs into place to prevent workplace-related injuries and creating healthy, clean and safe workplace to make the built environments a better workplace.
“We are thankful to BSCAI for the industry recognition after years of leadership and investment in keeping workers safe,” said Roland Strick, Jr., Service by Medallion’s President. “Safety has been one of our core values since our company was founded in 1978. This national prestigious award is a tribute to our team members’ commitment to doing everything they can do to protect themselves, their fellow employees, and everyone who uses the facilities we maintain.”
Service by Medallion’s “Safety Builds Me” program includes an injury and illness prevention program that addresses all seven elements of California OSHA requirements. Over the past four years, the company has achieved a 60% reduction in its Experience Modification Rate (EMR), the metric used by insurance companies to evaluate the costs associated with previous work-related injuries as well as future risks.
The safety program focuses on proactive communication and behavior recognition, and includes ongoing engagement with all front-line employees through training sessions and safety bulletins. All customer sites also undergo monthly safety audits by a member of the Medallion Risk Management Team. If any item is flagged as “at risk,” the account management team has 48 hours to fix it.
Additional safeguards have been put in place as a result of the COVID pandemic, including requiring all employees to complete a daily self-health assessment questionnaire prior to clocking-in. If an employee tests positive, contact tracing is done to minimize the risk of additional infections. The award was formally announced at the BSCAI 2020 Contracting Success + Conference.
